Rock Skills Introduction Courses
This Rock Skills Introduction course is a highly practical one day course where you will learn the essential safety skills to start your rock climbing journey. You will look at various aspects of rock climbing including:
- Guidebooks and Apps
- Low level climbing/bouldering/traversing
- Appropriate equipment (Helmets, Harnesses, belay devices, rock shoes)
- Knot tying
- Belaying with a variety of belay devices including friction plates and assisted braking devices
- Lowering and holding a fall
- Abseiling
- Identifying and managing risk
- Emergency procedures.
As well as environment aspects like:
- Access
- SSSI designations and what they mean to access (local flora and fauna)
- Respect the Rock
- Leave no Trace
By the end of the day you should be in a strong position to take a climbing wall belay test and be looking to the next steps of your climbing journey with a Rock Skills Intermediate course.
A Rock Skills Introduction course is ideal for beginner climbers; those who have never climbed on rock and those with limited experience of climbing indoors.
Minimum age: 12
Course length: 1 day.
Climbing experience required: none.
All candidates will be emailed a pre-course information pack and be registered on the Mountain Training Association Candidate Management system (CMS) by Up & Under Adventures, as well as a 15% discount with Cotswolds Outdoors and Snow + Rock.
